The Fundamental Concepts of Daido-ryu Aikijujutsu.
Firstly, understanding one's own body, knowing what to cooperate with and what to resist. With this premise, one can proceed to understand how to cooperate and how to resist.
Secondly, understanding the unique nature of Daido-ryu. Daido-ryu is not a martial art for general battlefield use, but rather a martial art for feudal domain protection. It was used for guarding the feudal domain, and in situations where one did not want to offend the feudal lord but had to subdue the opponent. Therefore, the conclusion is that Daido-ryu is designed for non-injurious subjugation. If there were other martial arts available within the feudal domain, why would one use Daido-ryu? The answer is that Daido-ryu is designed for non-injurious subjugation.
Thirdly, understanding that Daido-ryu techniques themselves are both the question and the answer. The answer need not be sought externally; it is right in front of you. One only needs to practice in the correct manner.
Fourth, tackle the tough stuff first! We'll circle back to the easier stuff later.
Fifth, when you start a move, think of your feet as the engine and your hands as the transmission. Keep your weight forward and your body straight to stay relaxed.
Sixth, relaxation isn't something you're born with—it's a skill. Once you're relaxed, you'll be surprised at how little force you need to pull off a technique.
Seventh, there is often more than one answer. Various possibilities will arise on the road of pursuit. Do not stick to a single creed, but adjust and update at any time.
Eighth, don't even think about moving until you've got your stance right.
Ninth, seated techniques are like the training wheels of martial arts. They're simpler and help you focus on the basics.
Tenth, every move has a purpose. Most techniques are designed to start a certain way. The idea of a 'follow-up' move usually comes up when something unexpected happens, like if you run out of space."
